With the HRD Summit 2020 fast approaching, HRD Connect takes a look at what to expect at this year’s landmark event.

150 speakers and over 1,500 attendees will grace the International Convention Centre in Birmingham on February 4th and 5th for this year’s HRD Summit UK.

The theme for this year’s event will be Harnessing Human Creativity, with a focus on how businesses can harness the ingenuity of their people to stay ahead of the rapidly changing landscape of work.

Attendees can expect to hear from top thought leaders and industry experts, and they will have invaluable networking opportunities with some of the world’s biggest companies.

Here is a sneak peak of what is on offer.

Keynote Speaker – Margaret Heffernan

The keynote speeches are where the big questions will be answered and will provide access to the most high-profile and impactful thought leaders.

Our first keynote speech of the summit will be delivered by author and thought leader Margaret Heffernan, whose TED Talks have been viewed by over seven million people.

Margaret was named one of the Top 100 Media Executives by the Hollywood Reporter and has authored five books, one of which was named one of the most important business books of the decade by the Financial Times.

This talk will focus on the topic of Times of Change: How to Lead Through Uncertainty and will provide attendees with valuable insight on how to predict and adapt to change by fostering proactive and creative leadership.

MATCH Meetings

hrd summit ukOur MATCH Meetings will take place throughout the Summit and will provide a space for intimate networking sessions designed to help solve current business challenges.

The meetings are facilitated by our MATCH Meetings networking platform that has an inbuilt algorithm to ensure that all connections are meaningful.

Keynote Speaker – Bernard Marr

As well as being an international bestselling author and strategic advisor to companies and governments, Bernard Marr was recently ranked as Linkedin’s number one UK influencer.

A leading futurist who has advised some of the most well-known companies on strategy and digital transformation, Bernard’s keynote speech will focus on the topic of Merging Human and Machine: The Role Technology Will Take in The Future of Work.

Adapting to changes in technology has been identified as one of the top HR trends of 2020 and this keynote will provide attendees with a valuable insight into how they can get ahead of the curve.

Bernard will delve into the technological advancements that have changed the way we work, and will explore how organisations can integrate and make the most of them while building on the strengths of their people.

CoLabshrd summit uk

Our CoLabs will see attendees working in small peer groups, guided by thought leaders using agile learning methods to get to the heart of key business challenges. They will provide tangible takeaways that organisations can implement straight away.

Some of the issues that our CoLabs will cover include Social Leadership, Getting the Best out of Your People in Times of Change and Amplifying Purpose and Passion to Tap into Creativity. Tuesday 4th February, 14:00 – 15:00 and Wednesday 5th February, 12:00 – 13:00

Panel – The New World of Work: Rising to Meet Future Trends Head On

The first of our panels will see a discussion between Mark Bouch, Managing Director of Leading Change Ltd, Cath Bailey, VP HR Commercial Business at Avon and Kate Griffiths-Lambeth, Group HR Director at Charles Stanley & Co.

The trio will take a deep dive into the trends that are set to define the world of work not just for 2020, but for the coming years as well.

Hilary McGrady

Keynote Speaker – Hilary McGrady

The first day of the summit will be closed out by Hilary McGrady, Director-General of the National Trust since 2018.

Hilary has worked for the National Trust since 2006, having first joined as Regional Director for Northern Ireland before being appointed Chief Operating Officer in 2014.

The talk, A Purpose to be Proud of, will see Hillary explore the idea of creating an authentic purpose that employees can connect with.

Attendees can expect to be given an insight into how they can help employees see the value of their work and how it contributes to a wider mission.

Keynote Speaker – Georgiana de Noronha

Georgiana de Noronha

Having championed a learning-based culture with a focus on diversity and inclusion as VP People and Performance at Kraft Heinz, Georgiana de Noronha was promoted to President Kraft Heinz Northern Europe in October.

A Culture to Embrace Performance, Learning and Diversity will be the focus of Georgiana’s talk, and is something she discussed briefly on the HRD Live Podcast in October.

Georgiana will draw on her own experiences as she gives the audience an idea of how to create a culture that brings the best out of people.

Stephen Robertson the big issue

Keynote Speaker – Stephen Robertson

CEO of The Big Issue Stephen Robertson will present our final keynote of the summit: Changing Lives One Newspaper at a Time.

Having previously served as Director of Commercial Services for Shelter, Stephen became The Big Issue’s CEO in July 2007.

With a career dedicated to helping those in need, Stephen will close the summit by exploring the place that ‘everyday activism’ has in the workplace whilst discussing the evolution of The Big Issue and how it has helped to tackle social ills.
