In this HRD Connect video, we hear from Sheri Hughes, UK DE&I Director at PageGroup about creating opportunities for women in recruitment.

Sheri discusses the importance of ensuring women are represented at all levels of business and encourages companies to ensure they are taking the steps to make that happen, starting with the recruitment journey.

As Sheri highlights, some of the actions PageGroup are taking include:

  • Being mindful of the language used in job adverts and descriptions at the start of the hiring process
  • Ensuring line managers have the best training available to them
  • Creating opportunities for women early in their careers
  • The process will not happen overnight- allow time for change

3 Key takeaways

  1. Representation is everything. Women need to know they have role models.
  2. Create opportunities for women: level the playing field but also ensure women in higher-level positions help those looking to grow.
  3. Think about your recruitment process and candidate experience and make sure it reflects the company culture as a whole.

However, with all this in mind, Sheri sums it up well by saying:

“You only see difference and get bigger and stronger outcomes by doing things differently. You can’t do it the way you’ve always done it.”
