On September 17, 2020, we’ll be exploring the theme of ‘Embracing Cultural Shifts’ in the next installment of our HRD: A Virtual Experience online events, with leading industry experts from brands including Schneider Electric, Moody’s, Twitter, BAE Systems and more.

One of the amazing speakers joining us on the day is Mike Bokina, Vice President, Head of Human Resources for Siemens USA, serving the company’s largest market in the world, with more than 50,000 employees and over $23 billion in revenues and $5 billion in annual exports. In this role, Mike is responsible for developing and executing human resource strategy in support of the overall business plan and strategic direction of the organization, specifically in the areas of succession planning, talent management, change management, organizational and performance management, training and development, and compensation.

Mike has more than 20 years HR experience with a focus in the areas of HR Strategy, HR Measurement, and improving the performance of the overall HR function.

During September’s HRD: A Virtual Experience, Mike will discuss ‘Learn, Unlearn and Relearn: The Need for Learning Agility’. The ability to rapidly learn, unlearn and relearn based on new and changing situations has never been more vital to business continuity. Workers are finding themselves in situations where there is limited expertise and no one who necessarily has the ‘right’ answers to guide them.

Learning agility is needed to enable them to be flexible, question biases and shift their mindsets. More than just learning new skills, learning agility is developing a mentality to increase learning capacity and accelerate adaptability. This session will delve into implementing a continuous cycle of learning necessary for the unpredictability of the future workplace and world, supported by specific examples of how Siemens has responded to these challenges through learning.

In this quick Q&A, Mike shared what you can expect from his presentation, as well as his advice for navigating this challenging and unpredictable time. Join Mike Bokina, and many more fantastic speakers at HRD: A Virtual Experience this September. Book your free spot here.

Can you give a small teaser for attendees about what you will be sharing at HRD: A Virtual Experience?

What does empowerment of the workforce mean and how does a company embrace a more ‘open architecture’ for its employees to own their careers?  From the strategic and conceptual playbook down to making it real at Siemens US.

What makes you passionate about your topic?

We learn all our lives, but never has the power of learning been so accessible, individualized and ‘real’. But how do employees take advantage of it? What is the role of the manager, the employee, HR?  That ‘power’ now sits in the hands of all employees to develop – personally and professionally.

Why should we attend your session?

One size does not fit all, especially at Siemens US where our workforce ranges from the factory/production setting to supporting customer on sites, to software engineers working in a virtual environment. How do you solve those challenges? And how do you prepare the workforce for what is next? Siemens has an answer!

A piece of advice for navigating this challenging and unpredictable time?

Resiliency. Difficult times call for all of us to develop, stretch and strengthen our resiliency muscles. Finding what that means for you professionally and personally is of utmost importance – exercise, cooking, spending time with family, reading, connecting with co-workers through virtual coffee hours. Find that way to stay engaged and connected. It’s a personal journey.

And finally, what are you most excited about for HRD: A Virtual Experience?

I love to connect with colleagues near and far to see how we are all individually and collectively elevating the work of HR while unlocking the potential of the workforce. And this Virtual Experience is a way to embrace the New and Now Normal modes of working. Learn, grow, elevate.
