Engaged employees are the secret to a successful business. This is not unique to sector, profession or seniority — in every walk of life, it is possible to love what you do.

Research has clearly demonstrated that companies with engaged employees are:

  • 78% more profitable[1]

  • 40% more productive[2]

  • Five times less likely to suffer safety incidents[3]

  • More than twice as likely to see their stock price grow above that of their peers[4]

Frustratingly, it is deceptively hard to know how to foster engaged employees. Employee engagement currently sits at around 32% and has remained low for the past two decades.[5]

The result of such low engagement? Burnout – an epidemic with potentially disastrous effects for businesses and their people.

“Burnout is something that hurts the employee, those around them, and ultimately the business”, said Dr. Reetu Sandhu, Manager, Limeade institute.”

“Burnout targets the most committed employees — those that care deeply for their work and their organization. To prevent and foster recovery from this sad and harmful experience, we must understand what burnout is and how to spot it.”

Regardless of industry or profession, there is one clear way to target burnout and support the most driven in your business – by putting well-being first.

“Employee well-being drives engagement, and vice versa. When employees are engaged in their work, they feel good and live with a sense of purpose,” says Dr. Laura Hamill, Limeade Chief People Officer and Chief Science Officer of the Limeade Institute.

“Employees with higher well-being are twice as likely to be engaged in their jobs.[6] These employees enjoy their teams more, are more loyal and recommend their company as a great place to work.[7] When employees have high well-being AND feel supported by their organization, it’s a win for everyone.”

While engagement and well-being are clearly linked, there is no scientific consensus as to why exactly this is. Research suggests that the key may be related to:

  • Coping well and reframing stress

  • Having the physical and emotional energy to be engaged

  • Feeling a sense of purpose at work

  • Feeling valued and cared for by organizations

So, what can HR and business leaders do to identify burnout in the people they value most, and effectively remedy its disastrous effects?

To find out, join Dr. Laura Hamill, Limeade Chief People Officer and Chief Science Officer of the Limeade Institute, and Dr. Reetu Sandhu, Manager, Limeade Institute, for ‘Can You Spot the Burnout?, a webinar which will take a deep dive into the root causes and most powerful solutions to the most important workplace well-being issue of our time.

“Burnout is a topic that has been around for a long time, but only now organization leaders are starting to realize the role they play in causing and preventing it,” says Dr. Hamill.

“I’m thrilled that companies are beginning to lean into this topic and make burnout a subject that we all understand and, hopefully, start to actively manage.”
