Desirable leadership qualities

Great leaders are the reason successful organisations exist. Their visionary outlook is vital to the overall running of the company, but what qualities do they possess? 

Leaders need to know how to motivate employees ensuring that everyone is working towards the company’s goals.

Can leadership traits be learned or are they innate? It’s a question that many people face and when you consider how much training in involved across the entirety of HR it’s a very important point to consider.

In any case, it’s always great personal development to build on leadership traits, we have determined that these are six exceptionally desirable leadership traits.

Being accountable

An effective and impactful leader knows firstly that it’s natural to make mistakes, and when this happens how to take responsibility for their own mistakes. Acknowledging mistakes without fear or blame is also important and something that doesn’t happen very often, sometimes workplaces can get engulfed by blame cultures when there is a lot to learn from accountability and the problem solving that it involves.

Being strategic

A progressive and unbiased approach is what is needed in leadership today A Harvard Business Publishing report detailing what leadership qualities are needed for a complex world stated that leaders must be able to adjust their strategies to align with emerging prospects and be ready for unforeseen challenges.

Strategic thinking can start with:

  • Acting upon curiosity for the business
  • Being open to new ideas and having an entirely flexible mindset allowing for change as and when it’s needed.
  • Constantly being focused on the future, adapting aspects of the business to sustain change.
  • Being a positive role model

Being agile

As mentioned previously, worthy leaders can adapt to the situation around them in this extremely changeable business landscape.

Leaders need to be able to forecast change and get ahead of the curve in order to gain the trust of their employees. Continuous learning is vitally important when staying agile because it gives you the ability to gain different perspectives with added accuracy across the entire situation.

You can also be both physically and emotionally agile, having a flexible mindset and using technology to your advantage can help you and your organisation become more physically agile where confides don’t exist. Emotional agility comes equates to emotional intelligence and empathy which feeds into your overall management style.
